Day in the Life:

How ‘overnight news,’ triathlons and more fit into Joanie Griffin’s day

Joanie Griffin is a veteran in Albuquerque’s public relations and advertising world.

More than 25 years after she first launched Griffin and Associates, the firm has grown to 10 employees and a client roster that spans health care, tourism, business and nonprofit sectors. Griffin started the firm after her “previous employer had a massive layoff and I was one of the casualties,” ultimately deciding that she would never be in that position again.

Screen Shot 2015-12-15 at 2.44.57 PMWhile heading up one of the biggest firms in both public relations and advertising, Griffin still makes time to serve on not one, but four boards and makes time for two sports that aren’t for the weak: cycling and triathlons — activities that typically carry daily 90-minute training sessions. While she’s recuperating from a serious accident in August, the executive still spends a piece of her morning at the gym working on rehabilitation exercises.

Check out the accompanying gallery to see why she is usually answering emails at 4:30 p.m., which political blogger she reads and how she unwinds when the day is coming to a close.
