Sunny505 Gives Scholarship to UNM Strategic Communication Student
Sunny505, one of New Mexico’s largest integrated communications firms with offices in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Durango, and Pensacola, FL, has set up the Sunny505 Scholarship specifically for a student majoring in Strategic Communication at The University of New Mexico’s Department of Communication and Journalism. The scholarship will be awarded in May and will pay for the student’s tuition for the 2019-2020 school year. In addition, the recipient will have the opportunity to intern at Sunny505. The gift is the single largest to this department in its history.
“We are grateful to UNM for its programs and the quality of the graduates we have hired over the years, including our president Dezaree Vega-Garcia,” explained Joanie Griffin, Sunny505 CEO. “We want to give back to the university and say thank you, and more importantly, make a real difference for students going forward.”
“My colleagues and I are thrilled that Joanie Griffin, whose agency has long been a pillar of our community, has created this award, which will directly benefit the students of the Communication and Journalism Department,” said David Weiss, UNM Associate Professor and Chair. “Our department has, for years, been honored to administer student awards and scholarships funded by individuals and organizations across the Albuquerque community, but this is by far the most sizable we’ve ever had the privilege to offer. The Sunny505 Award will have a tremendous impact on our most talented students.”
